Rapture ???
By Stan Butler
A lot of money has been made and is being made with the scare tactics involved with something called the “rapture”. Let’s look at how this “rapture thing” got started, and then spread, and then what the word of God has to say about Christ’s return.
The doctrine of a secret rapture was first conceived by John Darby of the Plymouth Brethren in 1827. Darby, given credit for being known as the “father of dispensationalism, is the inventor of the doctrine known as “the rapture”, claiming that there are two second comings of our Lord Jesus Christ.
In 1830 in Scotland, a 15 yr old girl named Margaret McDonald had a vision that Jesus would return to earth twice. She saw Jesus taking true believers to heaven and then returning again for the last judgment. During a Darby visit to her hometown of Port Glasgow, she shared her vision with John Darby. He then incorporated Margaret’s vision and his own thoughts into a precise end time plot based on passages found throughout the Bible. The centerpiece of his prophetic system—Jesus would rescue believers before the horrors of the book of Revelation. This doctrine was then spread by Darby throughout Great Britain and America and called “the rapture”.
In the early 20th century, Darby’s ideas were taken up by a man named C.I.Scoffield. C.I.Scoffield annotated a Bible based partly on Darby’s end time prophecies. (Annotate—add explanatory notes to a book, document, etc.) He put his notes on the same page as the biblical text and often times readers couldn’t remember if they had read about the rapture in the book of the Bible itself or on the bottom of the page. This Scoffield Bible has sold over 11,000,000 copies worldwide and is still in print in seven different languages.
We’re told in Acts 2:9-11…"And when He had spoken these things, while they beheld, he was taken up; and a cloud received him out of their sight. And while they looked steadfastly toward heaven as he went up, behold, two men stood by them in white apparel; which also said, “Ye men of Galilee, why stand ye gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so come in like manner as ye have seen him go into heaven.” No secret coming or snatching away here. He’ll return just as He left, with witnesses
Jesus said in Matthew 26:64… that we would see Him coming in clouds of glory. No secret coming or snatching away here. All eyes shall behold Him.
In 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17..."For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. Wherefore comfort one another with these words." No secret coming or snatching away here either. It’ll be a loud announcement from the start, and then we’ll see the graves opened up and those that are “in Christ” will be caught up with the dead in Christ. Does this describe a secret snatching away (rapture)?
And in Revelation 1:7…"Behold He cometh with clouds and every eye shall see him."
There will be no secret snatching away of just the faithful. (All eyes shall be a witness)
There will be no second chance for the lost to be saved. (Better talk to your loved ones now)
There will be no rebuilding of the temple in Jerusalem with animal sacrifices. Our Jewish friends need to accept and believe that Jesus is their promised Messiah.
Absolutely nothing on earth is preventing or will prevent the second and final coming of our King. All that has to happen is for the Father to look to the right hand side of His throne and speak the words, “Go get ‘em Son.” No future events must take place first. Now is the day of salvation. Don’t be deceived into thinking you have time on your side and many things must happen before Christ can return. Don’t think you can wait till there is a temple being rebuilt in Jerusalem. Don’t think you can wait till some guy with a scar on his face comes into power. Act, and do it now.
Hear the gospel, believe that Jesus is the only Christ and the very Son of God, confess this before men now and till you die, repent of your sins, be baptized for the remission of those sins, and be faithful till death to the Lord and His Table. Put your energy into soul winning instead of arguments about an imaginary “rapture.”

AMEN AND AMEN
Enjoyed reading the post. I Didn't know that the idea of the rapture was made up in the early 1800's. Thanks for sharing that with us. : )
I agree with every word you put forth here. In fact I was just doing some reading on the topic and how this fallicy started, then I saw your email.God has perfect timing. I don't believe or see biblical proof of a rapture. Scripture does not support it.The Book of Revelations is not an easy study, I would say we are in a time when every Christian should get alone, and study it prayerfully--and with diligence. Some have the unholy habit of reading what everyone else is saying. Ask the Lord for understanding. Pray!Thank you for a timely post of truth Brother. As you said so pointedly forget these imaginations and win souls.
Amen, we shall face the sting of this world--allowing us to smite with the sword!
A great post, Tom. I've never understood how people can believe in the Rapture. One has only to read the BIBLE to discover the truth regarding it.
Wise advice.
Brother we see eye to eye. I am encouraged to see that others are not fooled.

Thank you for your post. The question of the Rapture is controversal, as I'm aware of its history from authors such as Darby and Scofield, along with books written by Hal Lindsey, Tim LaHaye, Norman Robertson, Dave Hunt and others all supporting the doctrine.
My next blog (not written yet) will look into this. Watch this space!
I wondered where they got the rapture from. I never saw it explained that way in the Bible, unless they got carried away with Matt. 24:40 when it said, "Then shall two men be in the field; one is taken, and one is left:
Great post to bring to our attention.
Like divorce, this is a very interesting teaching that emotionally polarizes the Body. My thoughts are I am chicken enough to hope for the rapture and realistic enough to know that God kept the children of Israel right in Egypt in the middle of the plagues, protecting them. He kept Noah in the middle of the flood, protected. He kept the 3 Hebrew children in the furnace, and walked there with them....
We need to "occupy" until he comes - whatever that looks like, eh?
Excellent post!! this is new to me. I'll have to investigate more about the matter.
Blessings
Thank you for the information about the history of the doctrine of a rapture. I think the important thing to know is that Jesus is God's Son and our Savior, and to faithfully live our lives in the most Christlike way we can. God is in control, and whatever happens, whenever it happens, we can rest assured that He will be with us and we will be with Him forever.
There is no such word as rapture in the Bible, and no such doctrine.
Hi Stan, I enjoyed reading this post.
GOD BLESS!
Bless you Stan for sharing wisdom and truth and for pointing your readers back to the word of God.
I like your explanation about rapture, I hope that you'll never get tired of sharing valuable messages.

Referring to my above comment, the article on why I believe in the Rapture is now published. When I looked at a model of the 3rd Temple on display in Jerusalem, I thought...yea!
That is so interesting, I always wondered where that came from. I was raised Catholic and had never heard of the rapture, thanks for sharing!! Have a Blessed day!! Karen
I had not been aware of this history of the rapture until I read your post. Thank you for sharng and prompting me to learn more. Your last paragraph is sooo important to remember as Christians. I truly believe that some churches today have forgotten what their mission and ministry should be - to bring others to Christ. The Great Commmission as outlined by Jesus must be our main focus. Great post! Thank you:-)

Aw shucks!
There goes my idea for the robot Apocalypse, the zombie apocalypse and Jupiter spinning out of orbit and taking the world across galaxies. They would've been fun stories ;P
Nice post
Xoxo
It was a blessing to read your words. Thanks for the insight. Thank you for your kind comments on my site as well.
Hi,
You visited my blog and invited me to follow yours. I'm not a Christian or a follower of any religion, but thank you for your invitation. I wish you and all of your followers the very best.

I am glad that someone has both the insight and courage to address this issue with a biblical perspective. A tremendous amount of time and many resources are wasted on the foolishness of the secret rapture, the tribulation, and all the surrounding hype. How many people make a good living promoting it to generation after generation?
Stan says, Jesus will be back. Be ready. That's all you need to know. For now.
Amen and thanks.
It's such a blessing to see blogs like this.. Following you back and thank you for showing interests on my blog , such a pleasure.. ;)
Great post!
HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU AND YOURS!
I just read your postr of Wednesday, November 2, 2011. Interesting approach.
Yes, I remember the Scoffield Bible well: It was my first study bible ever, and one of my mentors told me in so many words that the footnotes were the most important part of the Bible!
Obviously he was wrong.
This blog is like a blessings to all who can read this. It's an eye opener for everyone. We should always be thankful to Him every single day.
About your comment: "A lot of money has been made and is being made with the scare tactics involved with something called the “rapture”"
I agree and I am glad that you are taking note when religions use fear, intimidation, threats and violence in order to make converts and to keep their members "in line" (as well as to ensure their tithes are paid).
Thoughts along those lines are bound to take one in a good direction.
I think that once one rejects fear and intimidation as valid enforcers of the faith, the entire Bible takes on a new, more genuinely Christian, perspective.
Jesus said, "Follow me." He did not say to follow anything,or anyone else. If anyone doubts, let him ask of God with a pure heart & the TRUTH will be revealed by the Spirit of God who delights in revealing Himself through His Word. Excellent information for those who LOVE the TRUTH! Thank you....not sure how I got here but pleased that I did. <3
Amen! Our mission here on earth is to win souls!
Look forward to following your blog!
i joined your site and also following you,God bless
Jesus hates liars, yet some who call themselves Christians spread the falsehood about the rapture.
Good job in getting the truth out there.
I came to thank your visit!
Very good your blog!
That our Jesus to continue using it too!
In faith!
Well put. I attend a Plymouth Brethren church but have many friends who adhere to Covenant Theology rather than Dispensational Theology. So I've heard various arguments regarding the end times but I haven't chosen one.
I'm more interested in the study of creation than revelation, although Revelation is a fascinating book to read. While there are many ways people interpret Genesis chapter 1 I like to scrutinize the wording to get a better view on it.
Although I have heard both the Dispensational and the Covenent views regarding the end times, your point about how Christ will return with a shout rather than silently is a good point on how the wording in 1 Thessalonians 4:16 indicates that everyone will be aware of his return.
It also reminds me of 1 Corinthians 15:51-52 where it says: "51 . . .We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
Yeah because there are two comings the one where God judges the earth and God comes for his people. You guys should read ur bible not a blog..
I believe Jesus is the only Christ!
Jesus is the only son of God!
Iasked Jesus into my heart Nov.9,2003 and was baptized.I'm not by no way a great, or even good christian...but I am thankful that Jesus loves me and has saved my soul from the pits of hell!
I appreciated your article on the Rapture and the pints you made, its history and a money making publishing scam. G-d keeps no secrets and all events have been announced and will be openly to the world. The very premise of rapture is as a clandestine event when G-d announces beforehand in plain sight by the prophets and unmistakable passages in scripture.
Great post! Its such a blessing when such a false doctrine like the pre-trib rapture is so explicitly and calmly explained to be unbiblical! Well done!
[Super blog, Stan. Saw this bit on the net. BTW, historian Dave MacPherson, who's focused 40 years on the rapture's history, backs up what you are teaching. His articles are in the enclosed.]
PRETRIB RAPTURE DISCOVERY !
BREAKING NEWS: Intensive and extensive and expensive and even pensive research has just discovered that the well-known pretribulation rapture is really and actually a SEVEN-stage coming. For proof look closely at I Thess. 4:13-18:
(1) The Lord descends.
(2) The shout.
(3) The archangel's voice.
(4) The trumpet of God.
(5) The dead rise.
(6) The caught up (rapture).
(7) The meeting in the air.
Right here you can add gasps, shortness of breath, and clutching your heart. Yes, it's true - seven (count them) stages. BTW, the following pretrib traffickers don't know yet about this new discovery: Crouch, Hagee, Hindson, Ice, Jeffrey, Jeremiah, LaHaye, Lindsey, Lutzer, Markell, Missler, Stanley, Strandberg, and Van Impe.
If rapture discoveries are new to you, Google articles like "The Unoriginal John Darby," "The Real Manuel Lacunza," "Deceiving and Being Deceived" by D.M., "X-Raying Margaret," "Edward Irving is Unnerving," "Walvoord Melts Ice," "Thomas Ice (Bloopers)," "Pretrib Rapture Dishonesty," "Pretrib Rapture Secrets," "Thieves' Marketing," "Appendix F: Thou Shalt Not Steal," "Pretrib Hypocrisy," "Pretrib Rapture Secrecy," "Pretrib Rapture Politics," and "Famous Rapture Watchers - Addendum" - most of these by the author of "The Rapture Plot" (the highest endorsed and most accurate book on the long hidden origin and early development of the 182-year-old pretribulation rapture theory).
For more info on the exciting seven-stage rapture, Google Joe Ortiz's "End Times Passover" blog (Oct. 19, 2012) which can out-blog any blog that knows how to blog!
Great Post. I can't wait for the rapture to happen. I hope it happens tonight!
